Clean Protein Balls – Chocolate & Lemon Coconut Variations

Introduction

Looking for a clean, no-bake snack that fuels your training? These protein balls are packed with oats, nut butter, and plant-based protein. I created them while training for kickboxing. They’re simple, satisfying, and require no milk or baking.

Protein balls have become a global trend, evolving from energy bites in fitness circles. This recipe offers two flavors: rich Chocolate & Nut and fresh Lemon & Coconut. Whether you’re on-the-go or just finished a workout, they’ll keep you energized.

Ingredients

Chocolate & Nut (25 balls)

• Rolled oats: 250g

• Protein powder (chocolate or plain): 125g

• Peanut butter: 200g

• Honey: 30g

• Maple syrup: 50g

• Oligosaccharide syrup: 20g

• Unsweetened cocoa powder: 25g

• Crushed nuts: 85–100g

• Vanilla extract: 1 tsp (optional)

Lemon & Coconut (25 balls)

• Rolled oats: 250g

• Protein powder (vanilla or plain): 125g

• Peanut or almond butter: 200g

• Maple syrup: 90g

• Oligosaccharide syrup: 10g

• Desiccated coconut: 40g

→ Recommended product: Desiccated Coconut on Amazon

• Zest of 2 lemons

• Lemon juice: 2–3 tbsp

• Cinnamon or vanilla extract: a pinch (optional)

Instructions

Step 1:

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Mix with a spoon or your hands.

→ If too dry, add more honey or a splash of milk or soy milk.

Step 2:

Chill the mixture in the fridge for 10–15 minutes for easier shaping.

Step 3:

Roll into 3cm balls. Each recipe makes about 25 balls.

Step 4:

Optional coating:

• Chocolate flavor: dust with cocoa powder or protein powder

• Lemon flavor: roll in desiccated coconut

Step 5:

Wrap individually or store in small containers for easy access.

Tips

• Adjust sweetness with more or less syrup depending on your protein powder.

• Use gloves or slightly wet hands to avoid sticking while shaping.

• Freeze for up to 2 weeks for longer storage or gift use.

• Lemon version gets more aromatic the next day. It’s great for prep ahead.
