High-Protein Chocolate Granola Recipe
Introduction
Granola is a beloved breakfast and snack that first appeared in the United States in the 19th century, created by health reformers who baked whole grains until crisp to promote digestion and wellness. Over time, it has evolved into a versatile food enjoyed worldwide, often paired with yogurt, fruit, or milk.
This high-protein chocolate granola not only brings you the crunch and flavor of traditional granola but also adds a modern twist with protein powder. You will learn how to bake oats and nuts to a fragrant golden finish, why protein powder should be added after baking, and how to make your own wholesome snack that is perfect for meal prep, gifting, or simply enjoying at breakfast.
I made this recipe as a farewell gift to my gym mates, so it is balanced to be both nutritious and delicious. It is also easy to portion out for sharing or storage in a jar at home.
Ingredients
(Makes about 1 liter jar)
- Rolled oats … 325g
- Nuts (almonds, walnuts, etc.) … 100g
- Seeds (pumpkin or sunflower) … 40g
- Chocolate protein powder … 50g
- Unsweetened coconut flakes… 50ml
- Olive oil or rice oil … 40ml
- Cinnamon … 1 tsp
- Vanilla extract … 1/2 tsp
- Salt … a pinch
👉 For unsweetened coconut flakes, I recommend this one for a rich taste.
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat
Set the oven to 160°C (320°F).
Step 2: Mix dry base
In a large bowl, combine oats, lightly crushed nuts, seeds, salt, and cinnamon.
Step 3: Make syrup
In another container, mix honey, oil, and vanilla. Add to the dry base and coat evenly.
Step 4: Bake
Spread evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake at 160°C (320°F) for 25–30 minutes, stirring 1–2 times until golden and fragrant.
Step 5: Cool and add later
Let it cool completely. Add chocolate protein powder and coconut flakes, then mix well.
Transfer to a large container (like a glass jar).
Step 6: Portion for serving
Serve with yogurt and berries or in a bowl.
For gifting, pack into bags.
Tips
- Add protein powder only after baking to keep its nutrients and flavor.
- Lightly crush the nuts for better texture and crunch.
- Store in an airtight jar at room temperature for up to 3 weeks.
- For a sweeter taste, drizzle extra honey or serve with fresh fruits.
